
The Ministry of Works announced yesterday the opening of the Bahrain Map eastbound and westbound flyovers which will be accessible to motorists as from tomorrow morning.
In a statement issued yesterday, Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Essam Abdulla Khalaf announced that the opening of the flyovers will be accompanied by new temporary traffic diversions on the roads directly underneath in order to allow for the movement of traffic from and into Avenue 13 (Tubli) and Highway 35 (leading to Salmaniya.)
The project's total cost stands at approximately BD10 million. The project was designed by the international consultant Parsons Global Services Limited and is being constructed by the local contractor Nass Contracting.
The ministry also announced that the signalised intersection of Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway and Abdul Rahman Bin Jassim Kanoo Avenue (located near the Al Ahli Sports Club) will remain operational for one more week until other temporary traffic diversions underneath the flyovers are completed. The intersection will then be permanently eliminated and this will result in the free flow of westbound traffic between the Umm AI Hassam junction and the King Fahad Causeway.
It has also been announced that the remainder of the road works being carried out underneath the flyovers are within five to six weeks of completion and once finalized the signalised junction underneath the flyovers will resemble the Seef flyover. The project will also include the replacement of the Bahrain Map monument, which will take place between now and the end of the current year.
