Bahrain Bulk Trade Co.

Better known by its acronym ‘BBT’, are importers of Crushed Aggregates from UAE.

Bahrain Bulk Trade WLL, better known to all by its acronym ‘BBT’, was established in 1983 as an importer of Crushed Aggregates from UAE. BBT is located at North Sitra Industrial Area, Bahrain.

It owns 2 jetties, of lengths 173 meters and 120 meters. Its fleet of vessels consists of 4 barges and 5 tugs. On order are, newly built, 2 barges and 2 tugs. Its present average annual shipping capacity is more than 2.2 million tons, which will increase to more than 3.5 million on arrival of the newly built vessels before end of 2008.

BBT imports Limestone and Gabbro Crushed Aggregates from UAE. Its annual turnover has crossed BD 16.50 million, from about BD 7.00 million 6 years ago.

Until the year 2001 BBT used to procure aggregates from various quarry operators in UAE. However a major milestone in BBT’s competence was achieved in the year 2001 when it established its own large-size Limestone Quarry in the Emirates of Fujairah, UAE, having an estimated deposit of 300 million tons of high quality limestone rock. State of art Austrian Crusher was set up with an annual production capacity of over 4.00 million tons. Since then, the quarry has now been fully developed with an asset base of about BD 10 million, which comprises of the quarry itself, twin-line crusher plant, rock body CAT dump trucks, 35 numbers of 70-tonner trailer dump trucks, excavators, shovels, bulldozers, drilling machines, generators, workforce of about 150 personnel, and so on. To own a quarry and a crusher plant has been a very successful vertical expansion for BBT.

BBT is 80% shareholder in a company called Qatar Bulk Company WLL in Qatar, which is engaged in the business of import and trade of crushed aggregates. BBT supplies aggregates to that company.

BBT enjoys an annual captive market in Bahrain to the tune of about 1.80 million tons, by supplying the aggregates to ready mix concrete companies, pre-cast concrete factories, cement block factories, owned by its own shareholders. The remaining capacity is marketed to other customers in Bahrain and Qatar.

Demand for aggregates in Bahrain is increasing day by day due to quite a few mega projects undertaken by the Govt. of Bahrain. BBT is fully capable and equipped to meet this challenge.
